Research Profile

Rosie Wu is a practice-led researcher, illustrator and creative technologist whose work investigates how human authorship emerges through intersemiotic transposition and AI-mediated creative systems. Her research connects philosophical inquiry, formal modelling and technological experimentation, using creative practice as a method for producing and testing knowledge.

Her doctoral research used picturebook practice to investigate intersemiotic and cross-cultural translation, examining how linguistic, visual, material and temporal structures interact in the making of meaning. This research developed from a wider professional and creative practice spanning mezzotint printmaking, illustration, visual narrative and picturebook publishing. Her more recent work extends these questions into generative AI and interactive prototyping, with particular attention to the productive roles of error, delay, resistance and incomplete understanding.

Working across Chinese and British educational and creative contexts, she brings expertise in practice-led research, visual narrative, illustration and printmaking, picturebook development, cross-cultural research, creative AI and experimental prototyping. Across these fields, her central concern is how abstract questions about imagination and agency can be translated into tangible forms that can be experienced, examined and developed collaboratively.
